2011Miss Heritage contestants awarded

The nine teenaged girls who recently contested the 2011 Scotia Bank National Secondary Schools’ Miss Heritage pageant were all awarded trophies and other prizes at an awards ceremony held at the Grenadine House on Friday, November 18.{{more}}

The nine lasses, representing various schools around the country, received trophies, cash prizes, cellular phones, gift baskets and other goodies compliments the show’s sponsors.

Winner of the pageant, Miss Thomas Saunders Secondary, Jonique Chance, will not have to worry about paying for her CXC/CSEC exams, as all her expenses will be covered by Equity Chambers. In addition, the fifth form student received a Blackberry smartphone handset compliments Digicel, a silver bracelet with matching necklace and earrings from Echoes Jewellery, an Mp3 player compliments Fragrances, and dinner for two at the Grenadine House.

Chance also received an LG DVD player compliments CK Greaves Ltd. for nabbing the Best Promotional video. For winning the Best Ambassadorial speech, she received a gift voucher from the Bamboo Spa, and a gift compliments Y de Lima for winning the Best Talent.

First runner-up Anya Frederick of the Girls’ High School also received a Blackberry handset compliments Digicel, prizes from Acute Cosmetics, and a $200 gift voucher from the French Veranda. She also received a gift voucher from Fullworth Boutique for winning the Best Cultural wear category.

Second runner up Chelsea Burke, of the Georgetown Secondary School, received an Android handset compliments Digicel, a gift from the Music Centre, and lunch for two at the Vee Jays Restaurant.

Taking the third runner up position, Precious Abraham of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown also received an Android handset from Digicel, a trophy and lunch for two at Xcape.

Most Improved contestant, Claressa Jacobs of the Intermediate High School, won a gift from Singer. The Most Community Spirited person Lystra Burgin of the West St George Secondary School received a gift voucher from Lewis Pharmacy. Most disciplined, Turphanie Davis of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua received a gift voucher courtesy Amnesia Fashion.

The other students receiving trophies and other gift prizes were Brittany John of the Union Island Secondary and Beverna Simmons of the George Stephens Secondary.

Each student walked away with a Gateway laptop with a wireless mouse and flash drive.

The chaperones and principals of the schools also received gifts and other prizes.

Headmistress of the Girls’ High School Andrea Bowman, sharing brief remarks, told the small gathering they have now come to the end of an extremely “inspiring, energetic, challenging and rewarding process.” It is her hope that the girls would take what they have learnt from the show and turn them into positives.

Bowman thanked all the show’s sponsors, parents, students, committee, chaperones, the Ministry of Culture and the Bank of Nova Scotia for all their support of the project.

Pledging their commitment for the next Miss Heritage pageant in 2013, Manager of Scotia Bank Basil Alexander applauded the show’s committee for doing an excellent job. He also lauded Bowman and the committee for their professionalism throughout the entire event.

Sharing brief remarks, Culture Minister Frederick Stephenson also congratulated the committee for the tremendous work they have done. He noted that the results of the show are overwhelming and the Ministry will continue to lend the necessary support.
