Miss SVG contestants ready to take the stage

After months of training and preparation, the ten contestants vying for the title of 2010 Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines say they are ready to take the stage and stake their claim.{{more}}

Making an appearance at the Carnival Development Corporation’s press conference on Tuesday at the Victoria Park, the contestants confidently gave those present in the conference room, along with others listening via radio, a small taste of what to expect tomorrow night.

The ladies: Bonnie Allicot, Kimeisha Bailey, Hadia Creese, Anna Ellis, Jodesia John, Aphesha Matthews, Ashelle Morgan, Shannon Murphy, Patsy Richards and Joverne Webb spoke on specific topics pertaining to themselves, the other contestants, as well as the pageant.

Among the cash and other prizes to be won, the person crowned Miss SVG will also earn a university scholarship valued EC $80,000.

Head of the Beauty Shows Committee Cheryl Rodriguez indicated that tomorrow’s show is expected to be one of the best produced shows in years.

Rodriguez, in outlining the evening’s programme, said that the event is expected to start on time and end at an appropriate hour.

The show is expected to begin with the national anthem of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, to be played on pan by Rodney Small and Reajhaun Baptiste, which will be followed by remarks by Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste.

The contestants will then make an un-judged introductory appearance in the form of a dance routine with the Avenues Dancers.

Another pan performance, this time by the Elite Steel Orchestra, will pre-empt the contestants’ first judged appearance, which will be in swimwear. This will be followed by the second judged appearance, which will see the contestants performing their talents.

After guest appearances by best new songs winners brother Ebony and Skarpyon, the contestants will return to the stage in their evening gowns for the third judged appearance.

This will be followed by their highly anticipated fourth and final judged segment- the interview.

Veronique Williams, Miss SVG 2009, will take her final walk following a performance by former soca and road march monarch Bomani, and this will be followed by the crowning of the new queen.

The show this year will be MCd by Earl Abbott and Sylvia Anderson.(JJ)
