Blondie Bird launches for Vincy Mas 2k9

The year has scarcely begun, but that hasn’t stopped band leader Elroy ‘Blondie Bird’ Boyd from being the first to launch his band production for Vincy Mas 2009.{{more}}

The band, Guinness Y de Lima 103.7 Hitz FM Blondie Bird and Friends, will officially launch 2009’s production on Sunday, February 1, at the Chamber of Commerce Car Park. This year’s production, ‘Cuisines’, will feature nine sections. Namely: Pelau, Goat Cook, Breadfruit and Jackfish, Ital, Sea Moss, Sorrel, Ice cream and Cheesecake (children’s section), Plantain Chips (children’s section) and Christmas Lunch.

Band Leader ‘Blondie Bird’ explained that this unusual production was his way of paying tribute to legendary mas man Roy ‘Dragon’ Ralph, who passed away last June. For the past few years, Ralph had toyed with the idea of bringing a band based on the different foods and drinks consumed locally. “I decided to take the name, do my own thing and pay a tribute to the brother in that form,” Blondie Bird related.

The current holder of the King and Queen of the Bands titles, Blondie Bird didn’t hesitate to issue a warning to the other mas bands. “Look out fuh we again in King and Queen because we ain’t letting go of that right now!” In last year’s carnival celebrations, Blondie Bird and Friends also placed second for both Junior King and Queen of the Bands, third for Junior Band of the Year, and, with their ‘Party in Space’ 2008 production they received third place for Senior Band of the Year.

Blondie Bird further took the opportunity to express his profound gratitude to both the patrons and sponsors of the band, and wished them prosperity for the New Year. He encouraged those who plan to visit for Carnival to play with his band, and also revealed that he is looking forward to top results and increased patronage for 2009.

The event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will feature deejays DJ Kano, 2 Kool Chris and Jude the Cool Dude. Entry is $3 per person and $5 for two, and attendees will get the opportunity to win prizes on the door.
