SVG Players Juniors tops with Beauty Beneath the Sea

Topping the scores with 733 points for their presentation of “Beauty Beneath the Sea”, SVG Players International made a splash that washed away other mas bands and anchored them firmly for the second year as the titleholders of the Sylvia Wilson Da Silva Junior Carnival Band winners.{{more}}

SVG Players International Sheriffa Smith, in the Individual 10-15 years category, shone to first place with her portrayal entitled “Star Fish” while Maya Cato of the same band swam in second in the 5-9 age group with “Angel Fish.”

Adrian Hutchins also of Players stung to 2nd place with his costume dubbed “Scorpion Fish” but Dominique John captured the judges with her miraculous costume called ‘Angles”.

Players settled for 3rd and 4th place with ‘Star Fish” and “King & Queen Angel Fish” in the Best Junior Section.



Coming in second with 730 points with their spectacular production entitled “Paradise in the Grenadines” was Blondie Bird and Friends. The mas band also won in the individual 5-9 years category with a creation portrayed by Jelani Niles called “Tobago Cays-Scuba Diving.”

In the Individual 10-15 years section, Amunic Martin was 3rd with “Tobago Cays Marine Life”, while Ealsha Thomas with her presentation of “Mayreau-Salt Whistle Bay” placed 4th.

In the Best Junior Section, Blondie Bird and Friends was 2nd with “Canouan Regatta.” They placed 5th in the Junior Queen of Carnival category with “Paradise in the Grenadines” but copped first place in the Junior King competition with “Marine Life in the Grenadines.”

In the 2007 Junior Carnival competition the Wizards mas band took 3rd place overall with 725 points in their presentation entitled “A Land of Dream.” In the other categories, Wizards’ Shenia Thomas took 3rd place in the Individual 5-9 years, and in the 10-15 years section Felicia Browne with her portrayal of “Dream of Love” was 2nd. They however placed 1st in the Best Junior Section with “Dream of Angels.” Fitzbert Young of Wizards also placed 5th with his costume called “The Drum-Instrument of Freedom.”

The other mas bands in the 2007 Junior Carnival competition held on June 30 at Victoria Park were 4th placers Dragons – “From Shackles to Emancipation,” 5th Nelson Bloc-”Carnival at large,” 6th High Voltage-”Tribes of Formosa,” 7th Singer Lynx-”We Like it So,” 8th My Imagination-”Grenadines Splendor,” 9th Melbourne Artisans-”Sirens Nymph and Pirates” 10th Beautex-”We Banking,” 11th Owen Ralph & the Professionals-”Dreams of Our Lives” and 12th Tribes Mas Band-”Simply Beautiful.”
