‘The Best of the Chorale’

‘The Best of the Chorale’

The heavens opened and the voices of angels echoed breathlessly through the vocal cords of the New Kingstown Chorale, as they graced the stage, last Friday evening, in yet another encore presentation.

A well-put-together presentation complete with theatrics ensured that the crowd in attendance was well pleased during last Friday’s gala at the Peace Memorial Hall.{{more}}

In powerful melodious tones, songs from Tim Daisy’s “Hairoun My Home” and Becket’s “St. Vincent My Homeland” – modern-day local classics were rendered. Their repertoire ranged – to more traditional pieces from Hammerstein’s “Nothing like a Dame” and di Lasso’s “Echo Song”, the 50 year-old outfit ensured that every rendition was entwined in the harmonic chords of their musical accompaniment.

Their warm and refreshing renditions captured an unassuming audience that received it with glee – seeing the folklores of yesteryear unfold before their eyes. Among the well received renditions were the “folkalypso” medley and an all-time favourite piece arranged by Pat Prescod -“Massa say no wuk t’day”. All was met with great appreciation from a packed Peace Memorial Hall audience.

A Piano/Pan duet by Sean Sutherland and Kevin Brown and solos from Erlene Williams-King, Roxanne Dalrymple, Clifford Edwards, and John Horne, accompanied by the male choir, blended sweet melodies of rhythm to the opera-like presentations.

Performing in front of a well-decorated setting and assembled similar to a Broadway backdrop, the choralites closed the curtains on Friday to loud applause, with patrons thirsty for another breathtaking recital, after back-to-back performances on Thursday and Friday night.
