Youngsters hit Calypso stage

Two youngsters, Zamfir “Man Zangie” Adams and Shazique ‘Princess Shaz” John, will have a double crack at royalty at this year’s Carnival celebrations.

Man Zangie, a Bethel High School student, and Princess Shaz from the Dr. J. P. Eustace Secondary are in the Calypso and the Junior Soca Monarch finals.{{more}}

They will be challenged in the Soca clash by St. Vincent Boys Grammar School’s Desron “Projec Boy” John, Ryan “Inferno” Abraham, Cheno “Ryce” Baptiste, and Ashaman “Tweeter” Duncan. The other Soca finalists are Affia “TS” Gurley from Bethel High School, and Jamella “Mella” Williams from St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua.

Last year’s Primary monarch Franecia “Singing Franecia” Glasgow will be testing her skills at the secondary level representing Girls’ High School. The others in the Calypso category are North Union’s Jolene “Princess Jolene” Bentick, Renecia “Singing Rene” Louie from Dr. J. P. Eustace, Desron “Pompey” from Kingstown Multi-Purpose, St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua’s Camesha “Singing Mesha” Hunter, and Georgetown Secondary’s Veron Nickie.

There will be a new Primary School monarch. The combatants are Jasian “Signing Jassy” Gardner from Belair Government, Calder Primary’s trio of Latifah “Singing Lefey” Richards, Donella “Singing DP” Power, C.W. Prescod’s Amunik “Little Nicky” Martin and Joelicia Tash, Iran Pompey from Sandy Bay Primary, Shafel Cruickshank from Lowmans Leeward and Park Hill Government’s Ackelia Cornwall.
