On Saturday, April 22, Rogers battled through tough competition after working her way through the semi-final rounds, edging out hundreds of other hopefuls. The ambitious Vincentian native performed at an Annual Gospel Fest at York University in the United States of America and placed 2nd. She wooed the crowd with her rendition of “It’s a Wonderful Merciful Saviour,” originally performed by the gospel group Selah.

Rogers, who hails from the Frenches area, migrated to North America in 2003 to fulfil her lifelong dream of a singing career. In an interview with BuzZ Magazine Rogers recalled realising her singing abilities at a very tender age. “When I was about seven years old I always used to play around the house singing and dancing to any tune.” Rogers also highlighted that performing in front of thousands of people was something that she had always dreamt about. “It is a soothing feeling knowing that I have made this a reality,” said the confident lass.

Pleased with her accomplishment, the young songstress said that the competiton was an unforgettable experience for her and that she would continue to pursue her dreams.

Rogers realised another of her dreams when she was able to witness the performance of one of her favourite singers, 2004 Grammy award nominee, R&B singing sensation, Kelly Price.

In 2003, Rogers also displayed her beautiful singing voice and walked away with the title of talented teen, when she won the “Shine” talent show at the Peace Memorial Hall.

Rogers kept it close to home as she thanked her mother, Luenda Richards Rogers and her father, Henry Richards. Rogers is under the management by Nicholas Williams, past manager of the all-boy band, Intrigue and Audley Wigans who is the lead singer of the group.

Chanique is a graduate of the Bishop’s College Kingstown.
