The steelband, which placed third place in the 2005 National Panorama competition at Vincy Mas, had been booked by the Department of Tourism. Persons sought autographs and inquired about CD recordings at one of Canada’s largest shopping malls on their final performance.

They also played for guests at the home of Consul General Evans Bernard John. Sixteen year old Rodney, the youngest member of the band said that in spite of the cold, “It was freezing”, he said, “it was fun.”

Rodney, still the youngest member of the band, said he began playing the pan as a youngster of nine years at the YWCA’s Summer Programme with tutors Johnney Pompey and Francis “Pess” Llewellyn. He has not looked back since after assisting the Girl’s High School and performing at the then Cable &Wireless-sponsored Junior Panorama competition.

This vacation saw the busy young man giving back at the YWCA, this time in the role of tutor, and thus completing a cycle.
