Smashers win national first division cricket title

SMASHERS BEAT E & J Robertson Construction North Windward Youths by eight wickets on Sunday, at the Sion Hill Playing Field, to cop the National Lotteries Authority First Division title.

Sent into bat, North Windward Youths posted 159 all out from 36 overs.

Sealron Williams led with 60, batting at number 7. Williams slammed 4 fours and 4 sixes, to revive his team’s batting.

Bowling for Smashers, Javid Harry took 3 for 26 and Darren Russell, 2 for 21.

Raymond Rouse then hammered 7 sixes and 4 fours in his 76 not out and Kuthbert Springer made 28 not out, to see their team reach 161 for 2, in just 15.5 overs.

The two shared in an unbeaten partnership of 117 for the third wicket, to see Smashers home without much fuss.

The win by Smashers assure them promotion to the premier division of the 2019 national cricket programme, however, indications are that they will not accept that position.

It could mean that second place North Windward Youths will be offered that spot.
