My sister-in-law is a plain, nasty, switch!

Hey Rosie,

I have a sister-in-law who is a plain, nasty, switch! Over the years she has caused my brother to become alienated from the family and this is sad, especially to my mother.  Rosie, I really want to go and cuss her off and also my bother too! I can’t believe that he can’t stand up to her.  Should I go over there and confront them?  He didn’t even call his mother for Mother’s Day.

I can feel your anguish and I am truly sorry for this very painful experience, but unfortunately there isn’t much that you can do about it.

You see, he is a grown man who can make his own decisions.  No woman or man can make him ultimately not do the right thing. So we can’t blame his wife no matter how much you may not like her. Your brother has to want to have a relationship with your mother and the rest of the family.

You are going to have to keep your distance, you can wish him the best, but know you can’t change him – only he can do that.
