Gov’t investigating operations of statutory corporations under ULP

THE GOVERNMENT said it has discovered discrepancies in some statutory organisations that need deeper investigation with the possibility of holding people accountable.

Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday made this clear on Sunday, September 20, 2026 during a town hall meeting in NewYork (NY).

Responding to a question from a member of the audience during the question- and-answer segment of the meeting, the prime minister said that the New Democratic Party (NDP) government is doing an assessment “in a methodical and systematic manner” as to how government functioned.

He said the investigation is being done, “not to meet any kind of, you know, timeline that somebody’s arbitrarily set or whatever”.

He told attendees that when the NDP took office, one of the first things they did was appoint, on his instructions, a two-person team to do a “rapid assessment” of statutory bodies.

“…team of two persons who are very capable Vincentians, to assess all of the public enterprises, stateowned enterprises.

“Their first report was sent to me about three months ago, where they had done 12 of those enterprises. I tasked them to go and do the remainder of them. They have now completed their work. I have not seen the report yet,” Friday said.

“From what we have seen before of the 12 that were done, there are things there that require further investigation, and they will be investigated,” the prime minister said.

He added, “I’m not here targeting somebody here and there. We are looking for ways in which things have functioned, so that we can correct the things that went wrong, so that we can hold accountable those persons who need to be held accountable, and where the information and the evidence lead, we will follow”.

He said people can rest assured that he is doing things the right way and that is the way he intends to govern, “because that builds confidence”.

“…you come, you say, ‘oh, you’re going after this, you’re going after that’, like some previous administration, and two or three years later, everything fizzles out because they started with the wrong premise.

“We owe you accountability. We promised accountability. We will deliver accountability. Follow the record,” the prime minister told the gathering. Dr. Friday is in NewYork at the head of a 10-member SVG delegation to attend the UN General Assembly Meeting.
