Police Officer dies one week after vehicle accident in Mesopotamia
A former police Officer of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), who subsequently joined the The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), died in the land of his birth one week after being involved in an accident that occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, along the La Croix/ Mesopotamia public road.
Police Sergeant 148 Kalvin Cockburn, originally from Greiggs, died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The 54-year-old officer who enlisted in the RVIPF in 2001, was a passenger in the omnibus driven by Garvin Brown, 59, also from Greiggs, which went over an embankment while travelling along the road, going in the direction of the Emmanuel High School and the Mesopotamia Police Station.
Reportedly, the driver, conductor, and all passengers sustained injuries. Most of the injured persons were treated at the Levi Latham Health Centre and subsequently discharged.
According to a release from the RSVGPF the driver and three of the passengers were taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for further treatment. The bus was extensively damaged.
In a post on his Facebook page following the accident, Cockburn thanked “the almighty for sparing the lives of all those who were involved in that horrible traffic accident”.
He also wished all involved a speedy recovery and had some safety advice for omnibus operators and drivers, especially of south central windward.
