SVGOC President urges the upholding of Olympic values
TODAY, JUNE 23, 2026, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC) and by extension, the nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines will join the rest of the member nations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in commemorating Olympic Day.
President of the SVGOC, Stephen Joachim in an address to mark the occasion, has cited his entity’s commitment to uphold the Olympic values, not only in sports, but in the wider Vincentian sphere.
“On this Olympic Day 2026, as on every Olympic Day since our formation in 1982, we take this opportunity to remind ourselves of the three (3) values at the heart of Olympism – excellence, respect and friendship. We encourage all in our society to strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives. We ask that we treat each other with respect. We know that friendship results in better relationships and human understanding. We encourage a commitment to the development of ever-stronger bonds of friendship”, Joachim urged.
Continuing his appeal to make the connection, Joachim noted that, “Olympism, and the values underpinning it constitute a guide to building and sustaining our Vincentian society and, ultimately, a better world. In SVG, let’s all strive for excellence. Let us show respect for each other and let’s continue to build friendships”.
The SVGOC president underscored that the input on national federations (NF) is critical in making this a reality.
