Chief Magistrate recuses himself from matters involving Jomo Thomas
This country’s Chief Magistrate, has recused himself from all matters involving a lawyer, who published on social media regarding a courtroom proceeding.
During court proceedings at the Serious Offences Court on June 1, 2026 Chief Magistrate Colin John addressed a commentary that was published to social media by lawyer Jomo Thomas.
The matter is in relation to one Okeno Fergus of Windward Leeward, who was charged that on May 17, 2026 he had in his possession eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition without a license issued under the Firearm Act.
The post, which is no longer visible on the platform stated, ‘Last week, I represented an accused man whose forehead was busted open by police officers. I raised the issue before Chief Magistrate Colin John. Prosecutor Cato objected, claiming that all the court heard was an allegation.
