Solid waste manager warns against illegal dumping of waste
Solid Waste Manager, Tahj Marksman, is reminding the public of the hefty penalties that can be imposed on persons caught illegally dumping waste, as he drew attention to wanton dumping at areas in Argyle and Akers.
Speaking on-site with the Agency for Public Information (API) on Friday, May 29, 2026, Marksman pointed to the Waste Management Act as the main piece of legislation governing waste disposal and management in the country.
“What I want folks to know” is the “Waste Management Act is our principal piece of legislation…. There are heavier fines of $75,000 for any individual who is caught disposing of their waste illegally at this site”.
Marksman also pointed out that companies found engaging in the same activity could face even stricter penalties.
“If a company is caught disposing of their waste on this site, they will have to pay $200,000 or face up to 12 months imprisonment.”
