Rose Hall man jailed for kidnapping and killing of toddler
A young man of Rose Hall will spend the next 19 plus years in prison after kidnapping and killing a baby girl by cutting her neck with a knife and leaving her body under a lemon tree.
Jeremiah Samuel, who was 21 years old at the time of the offence, appeared at the High Court before Justice Rickie Burnett on May 22, 2026 where he was sentenced to prison for manslaughter and kidnapping.
He was charged that on February 10, 2024 at Rose Hall, he stole and carried away without the consent of her mother, Janea Samuel-Wright, one year old, of Rose Hall.
He was also charged that on February 10, 2024 at Rose Hall, with malice aforethought caused her death by an unlawful act.
The facts are that on February 10, 2024 Jeremiah left his home in an area in Rose Hall named “Park” and went to his mother’s home in ‘New Village,’ Rose Hall sometime after 6:00 p.m.
His mother, Myrtle, was outside in the yard washing at a sink, when she saw Jeremiah. She left her washing and went to her sister Joan’s house, which is located about 10 seconds away from the sink.
Myrtle then told her daughter Mazonya, who was inside the house to give Jeremiah some food, having cooked earlier.
Myrtle then returned to the sink and continued her washing. Mazonya went into the bedroom to retrieve a bowl from baby Jenea’s mother, Jonessa, to serve Jeremiah the food.
Jenea was sitting in a long chair in the living room playing and laughing, and Jeremiah was outside sitting on the porch.
