ARCHBISHOP CHARLIE BLACKMAN from the Rock of Ages Evangelicals Spiritual Baptists of Barbados, along with many of the faith’s practitioners arrived in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) last weekend to celebrate with their local brethren the anniversary of the Spiritual Baptist’s ‘Liberation’.
We are here to “celebrate with our sisters and brothers”, he told SEARCHLIGHT at a gathering on the compound of the Central Market on Saturday, May 16,2026.
The ‘Liberation Day’ of Spiritual Baptists was observed in joyous celebration and a colourful display of Caribbean brilliance on May 21, 2026, a public holiday decreed by the Parliament of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
“We’re here because God has delivered us and we’re able to practice our religion. We praise God that we see the evolution of our people today that we can come and worship our God the way we know to worship, in spirit and in truth. I hope that the celebration go on. It will heal this land, and it will bring people to know there’s a true and living God,” Archbishop Blackman said.
