Another former national footballer shot, killed
FIVE YEARS after national football goalkeeper Dwaine “Tall Man” Sandy was shot and killed in Calliaqua, the East St. George constituency was once again ground-zero for the death of another former national footballer, this time, defender Keith “Chopper” James, also known as “Devon”.
James was shot dead on Friday, May 9, 2026 in the vicinity of the Anglican church shortly after he was dropped home.

The deaths bear some similarities. Both died at the other end of a gun. Sandy, 32, was shot approximately 15 times, while James, 37, was shot about five times. Sandy was killed around 8.30 p.m; James was shot and killed at approximately 8.06 p.m. Sandy’s death was recorded as the 16th homicide for 2021; James is the 16th recorded homicide in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) for 2026.
James, a resident of Golden Vale, Calliaqua was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting and, according to a police press release issued on May 9, 2026, investigators recovered five spent .9-millimetre shells from the scene, and a post-mortem is expected to be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
