Park Hill man wins massive lottery jackpot
A RESIDENT of Park Hill, Gevannie Blake, received more than one million dollars in the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) Lotto draw held on April 14, 2026. Blake, a prison officer, secured the substantial prize after playing the numbers 1, 8, 9, 16, and 17. He reportedly spent just four dollars on two tickets, which he purchased a few weeks ago at a lotto booth in Prospect. He received his winning cheque at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the offices of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) at Paul’s Avenue, Kingstown.
Despite the magnitude of his win, Blake remained composed and grounded upon receiving his prize.
“How I feel, feel normal… I am humbled, not the person to do these extra things,” Blake said, speaking shortly after collecting his winning cheque. He revealed that the numbers he played held personal significance, as they were originally drawn back in September, 2019. He explained that at the time, he took a screenshot and made a commitment to continue playing those same numbers over the years.
“Its been a long time since I have been playing these numbers so now its my turn, its my blessing,”said Blake.
Following the presentation ceremony, the Park Hill resident told SEARCHLIGHT that he intends to approach his next steps carefully.
“I am grateful for this blessing, so I am going to put it to good use…I don’t have any immediate plans, just going to think about certain things going forward then decide on what I’m going to do.”
Blake related that when he first realized he had won the jackpot, his reaction was one of calm rather than excitement. Present to share in the moment were his parents, his significant other, and a neighbour, all of whom offered support as he received his cheque.
Chairperson of the National Lotteries Authority Luann Hadaway, extended congratulations to Blake urging him to exercise prudence in managing his new found wealth.
“Winning a million dollars is not a simple part of your life; it’s going to change your life drastically. You have to pay attention and you have to think about what comes your way now,” she pointed out.
Hadaway emphasized the importance of making wise decisions and taking full advantage of the opportunity presented by having such a significant win. She also congratulated the jackpot seller who received over EC$17,000 as a commission from the sale of the winning ticket.
