Act to amend RPA heading to Parliament Tuesday
Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has given the New Democratic Party (NDP) administration an ultimatum to withdraw their plans to amend the Constitution, or else “all hell will break loose”.
The outspoken political leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) used his regular programme “Morning Comrade” on Star Radio Wednesday, April 15, 2026 to speak about the government’s move to table for amendment the Representation of the People Act at the April 21, 2016 meeting of Parliament.
The proposed amendment is to Chapter 9 of the Representation of the People Act which was revised in 2009.
In the next sitting of the House of Assembly, there is also a proposal to amend the constitution of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Number 19 of 1979.
The New Democratic Party (NDP) won 14 of the 15 seats in the November 27, 2025 general elections and formed the government.
In December, two candidates for the ULP, Carlos Williams (Northern Grenadines), and Luke Browne (East Kingstown), challenged the election of Dr Godwin Friday and Fits Bramble on the grounds that they also have Canadian citizenship.
