Mas band leader loses $38,000 in materials, elderly man homeless after Paul’s Avenue fire
A FIRE that broke out in Paul’s Avenue at the start of the weekend has cost an elderly man his home, and crushed the spirits of a Mas Band Leader, who invested $38,000 in equipment to repair the band’s headquarters.
The fire occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026 where a residential structure was found engulfed in flames.
Several buildings sustained significant damage as a result of the fire due to their close proximity. However, no injuries or fatalities have been recorded.
Among the structures that were damaged was the home of George ‘Fat Pants’ Bute, who has been residing in Paul’s Avenue for 79 years; the High Voltage Mas Band Headquarters; Boom SVG radio station and the Jujube Book Store.
