NDP promises to sniff for corruption if elected to office

If the New Democratic Party (NDP) forms government, party leader, Dr Godwin Friday says they will take a “forensic” look at governance under the Unity Labour Party (ULP) to determine whether there was corruption and mismanagement.

Speaking on Hot 97.1 FM’s AM Mayhem morning show on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Dr Friday said a forensic investigation will be in the offing because, “we have to have transparency”.

The NDP has long accused the ULP administration of mismanagement and Dr Friday said, “people want to know when you come into government, what the situation is…”.

He said the NDP would “definitely” look at not just the government finances, but investigations and analyses would be carried out to determine how the economy got to where it is.

“…if there is wastage, find ways to deal with that. If there is fraud, we find ways to deal with that… but beyond the forensics, it’s a matter of putting things in place and following the regulations, the financial architecture that we have already,” he told his hosts.

“…this government… they just basically seem to just pick and choose what they want to do in terms of following the laws and the regulations and the conventions that we have…,” Dr Friday said, while adding that a NDP administration will have to do a forensic audit on all the government ministries to see where they are at.

“We have to look at what’s happening in all the ministries…to see where we are and deal with them in a way that eliminate the problems that we’ve had and build on the things that are successful,” he added.

“… where there has been fraud, we have to deal with them, if there’s criminality involved, deal with them. People need the confidence to know that you have in place a government that essentially is setting a higher bar.”
