Shafiqua lands PUMA sponsorship

Vincentian International Olympics athlete, Shafiqua Maloney has signed a deal with the internationally recognises athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories company PUMA. This was shared in a Facebook post dated May 2, 2025.

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Maloney’s manager, Renitta Morris, gave SEARCHLIGHT an overview of the sponsorship deal with PUMA, which is both a brand and a company.

Morris said Maloney’s contract, which begins this year, will last for the next two years, with the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA in mind.

Though expressing some uncertainty, Morris said she believes that Maloney is the first Vincentian athlete to secure a deal with a well-known sports endorser like PUMA, that’s listed as a German multi-national company and leading sports brand.

“Shafiqua is our first at anything internationally,” said Morris, “but I’m not sure if there’s any other person who was signed by a shoe deal or shoe sponsorship, from what I know.”

She told SEARCHLIGHT that upon hearing the news of her sponsorship, Maloney was “happy and excited.” Morris pointed out that, “Shafiqua’s journey has been one of hardship. I always say it’s one of resilience…she went through a lot of difficulties.”
