Narrow escape for Barrouallie Family as house collapses

A family of Barrouallie whose house collapsed while two residents were inside, one of which was a two year old girl, narrowly escaped serious hurt, or worse.

During the morning of May 6, 2025, “a big piece of dirt” rolled down near the house but Schazelle Gibson, the home-owner, took it for nothing.

As the clock approached 1:00 p.m, two men were doing construction work underneath the house, which is situated on a slope overlooking Bottle and Glass.

Gibson was outside while her two daughters, aged 22, and two years were inside. The 22 year old daughter felt as though an earthquake was shaking the house so she grabbed her little sister and ran outside.

“She say she hear the vibration. I was outside, but me nah take it for nothing. All I find myself, me dey on the ground trying to get out some space-saver and some stone,” Gibson said. She said as she was getting up, a big piece of concrete fell to the ground.

“Because if me been dey dey, me would ah be a dead person,” she concluded.

Gibson also recounted that one of the men who was working underneath the house was bruised after he flung himself over an embankment in an attempt to escape the crash.
