Kay passes the baton to Chaka

Lawyer and politician, Kay Bacchus-Baptiste has symbolically passed the torch for West St George to accountant, Kaschaka Cupid, who has been selected to be the standard bearer for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the upcoming general election.

Cupid’s launch coincided with the official opening of the West St George Constituency office of the NDP, on Saturday, May, 3, 2025 in Belair.

Bacchus- Baptiste is the retiring NDP candidate for the constituency. In the 2020 general election, she was defeated by newcomer, Curtis King of the Unity Labour Party.

At Saturday’s meeting Bacchus-Baptiste handed over a key, the party’s symbol, to Cupid saying that she was now passing the baton to the new candidate.

She reminded party supporters of the NDP leader’s comments about politics being a relay, where one candidate has to pass the baton to the next.

“Vote for Kaschaka,” Bacchus-Baptiste encouraged constituents, “Those of you who voted for the other man… you have an opportunity now to correct that historical wrong.
