Family baffled at how work trip ended in tragedy

A Redemption Sharpes family is at a loss as to how a relative, who travelled for construction work, ended up dead in the waters off Grenada shortly before he was due to travel home to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

News reached Vincentians on Tuesday afternoon, February 25, 2025, that the body of 50-year-old Everson Berisford King aka “Doctor” was recovered from the waters near Sanchez Jetty in Petite Martinique. The discovery was made following a report that King had gone missing after being seen on the beach around 1:00 p.m on the previous day, Monday, February 24.

However, family members told SEARCHLIGHT that there appears to be many missing details as to how their relative ended up in the water, fully-clothed, with shoes and his limbs bound by rope.

“I know my brother don’t go beach. They say that he went swimming. Swim to go where? How I see it someone beat him. They tie his hand, his feet,” his younger sister, Jennifer King said, adding that he appeared to have a wound to his head as well.

She explained that the family first received the alert that King was missing around 6:00 a.m on February 25, with confirmation coming from the Royal Grenada Police Force later that same day that his body was found.
