Largo Height men jailed for stealing at T/20 Cricket Match
Two men who stole a woman’s handbag containing money and other items at the Arnos Vale Cricket Grounds last December where Bangladesh was engaging West Indies in T20 Cricket, were ordered to pay compensation and will also serve time in jail.
Zimroy Bailey, 22, and Damien John, 34, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie on February 11, 2025, where they were sentenced for theft.
They pleaded guilty that on December 15, 2024 without lawful excuse, they stole a Michael Kors bag containing items valued at EC$5,434.17, belonging to Cherice Roberts, a 26 year old resident of Campden Park.
They were also charged with stealing a quantity of items valued at EC$225.00, the property of Karen Ekane, a 22 year old student of Redemption Sharpes.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) hosted three T20 Cricket night matches from December 15-19, 2024.
Roberts went to the first match on the Sunday, December 15 match with friends around 7:00 p.m. They were in the Party stand. When the game ended around 11:50 p.m, Roberts, along with her friends, decided to take some photographs.
Roberts had a black Michael Kors handbag that contained a quantity of Osmo Pocket Photography items; an IPhone 14 Pro max fitted in a pink casing; along with her Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG) debit card; General Employees Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (GECCU) Card; National Identification Card; and some toiletries.
She placed the bag on the ground next to a table located close to where they were taking the photos. Bailey and John, along with two other of their friends were the only persons in close proximity to where Roberts and her friends were.
About five minutes into the photography, Roberts went to collect her bag to head home, but realised that it was missing. The men were also gone.
