Suzanne and Friends give 70-plus year olds a fillip

by Jada Chambers

Senior Citizens 70 years and older were pleased with the free beauty treatment they received from Suzanne and Friends earlier this week.

On Monday, October 21, 2024 a small team of haircare and skincare industry practitioners dubbed ‘Suzanne and Friends’, offered free pampering sessions to this group of senior citizens at the Methodist Church Hall, Kingstown from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m as their way of giving back to the community.
It was Eudene Springer’s first time in St Vincent but the Barbadian assured that it won’t be her last. While at the event, she told SEARCHLIGHT that her stay on the island has been “so far so good.” Springer, who already had her nails done, said she felt “fantastic” about her new look.

“I have my toes and my nails, so I look good,” she said. Springer encouraged Vincentians to donate to Suzanne and Friends so that the team can host the event on a yearly basis and “make the seniors feel good” about themselves.

Suzanne and Friends giving Senior Citizens a professional hair styling experience

“It shows people that there are people out there who are looking after the seniors so…you could come out…and have things like your hair done, and your nails and stuff like that, and something to eat. That’s very good, so I would say [to the organiser to] continue to do whatever you are doing, and I hope a lot of people would look into it,” she added.
Anita Wilson, another senior citizen who was pampered at the event, said she had a relaxing day.

“I got my hair done…. For a very long time, I haven’t gotten my hair done like this-my nails done, so I’m looking brand new. I celebrated my birthday gift last Tuesday (October 15,2024), so this is a birthday gift for me also, and this is the second time I’m coming to Susan to get this done, so as I said, it’s been relaxing. It’s been good and I pray that as she [does] this every year that she will be blessed.”

Wilson explained that when she arrived at the event, she didn’t expect to be presented with so many goodies.

“It was good. It was good. May the Lord bless her as she continues to do this,” Wilson told SEARCHLIGHT.

Senior Citizens enjoying each others’ company at the event

“Today was my first experience because I just got to the mark they are catering for. My mother came here many, many years ago. She would always be here, she was well taken care of,” Laferne Cato told SEARCHLIGHT, as she waited for her manicure. Cato said that Suzanne has been making a tremendous effort to make a lot of the women at the event look more beautiful.

“I am looking forward to be pampered. I have not had mine as yet, but I’m looking forward to it,” she said, adding that she is glad to be in her 70’s as ageing is a privilege because many people are dying young.
