Central Leeward are double champions of Schools’ Netball

The Central Leeward Secondary School Warriors did the netball double this year winning both the junior and Senior Division titles of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Inter-Secondary Schools Netball Tournament, on Thursday, December 8, at the Kingstown Netball Centre.

In the Junior Division, the encounter turned out to be a nail-biting finish with Central Leeward Secondary squeezing past the Georgetown Secondary School Gladiators by single goal to win the game 24-23.

The Central Leeward school ended the first quarter one goal ahead at 7-6; closed the gap to end the second quarter 12-10; widened the gap to end the third quarter on 20-16, and staved off a recovery from the Georgetown Secondary School to end the game at 24-23, thus clinching the title.

In the Senior Division game against the Girls’ High School, the Central Leeward Secondary School Warriors encountered much less resistance than their junior counterparts. Despite an early flourish in the opening two minutes of the encounter, Central Leeward dominated all four quarters 12-6, 23-12, 32-19 and 43-26 to win the Senior Division title.

Earlier, in the Primary Schools Division, which was the first of the three finals played last Thursday afternoon, the Fancy Government School handed out a 23-3 whipping to the Richland Park Government School.

Secondary Schools Junior Division – Junieka Quashie of the Central Leeward Secondary School.

Secondary Schools Senior Division– Kayla Miller of the Central Leeward Secondary School.

MVP of the Finals:

Primary Schools– Kaylon Lewis of the Fancy Government School.

Secondary Schools Junior Division – Akayla Blugh of the Central Leeward Secondary School.

Secondary Schools Senior Division – Jomeilia Alexander of the Central Leeward Secondary School.

With netball successes the Central Leeward Secondary School is ending the 2022 calendar year with four titles in sports.
