Farmer disemboweled in cutlass attack at Gorse

Relatives of cutlass attack victim Michael “Mike” Woods say they are praising God that the 56-year-old farmer survived the vicious chop that saw him having to undergo emergency surgery at the Modern Medical and Diagnostic Centre in Georgetown.

Annetta Woods, Michael’s wife told SEARCHLIGHT late on Tuesday that shortly after 8 am that day, she got news that her husband had been injured while tending his animals in Gorse. She said that shortly after Michael was attacked, he saw two men passing and called to them for help. The men came to the wounded man’s assistance.

One of the men went to the nearby residence of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves and asked the policeman on duty to call for help while the other man went to alert others of Michael’s predicament.
“When I saw the photos, I feel real sad, like a void left,” said Annetta.

The photos being referred to are those making the rounds on social media. They show Michael sitting upright on the grass with his hands stretched out behind him and his intestines exposed and protruding from his abdomen.

A recording also began making the rounds the same time as the photos. In the recording you can hear persons speaking with one woman commenting that the wounded man would not survive.

Another woman comments that the man who wounded Michael had no right to do so and should have gone to the police if there was an issue.

“I don’t know what happen…the man they said attacked him; they had some argument a couple months ago, but I don’t know what happen,” Annetta told SEARCHLIGHT.

She added that the doctors told her that her husband will be okay, and she is hoping that holds true.

“He is a hardworking person,” said Annetta.

Mary-Ann Woods, Michael’s daughter, said she was in school when she got the news.

“I am a bit sad and worried at the moment,” said the form five student who added that this is the first time something of this nature is happening to the family.

Police have detained a male suspect.
