Man faces second murder charge

Old Montrose resident Devon “Chiefman” Charles has been slapped with another murder charge. Charles appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Tues­day, charged with the murder of Andre “Judge” Garra­way/Bowens of Ottley Hall, who was fatally shot in his head and about his body on September 15, 2015.{{more}}

On Tuesday, November 8, senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche indicated that 12 witnesses are expected to testify in this case. Corporal 563 Primus is carrying out further investigations. A preliminary inquiry into this matter is scheduled for January 11, 2017.

Charles is presently on remand awaiting trial for the murder of 39-year-old André ‘Sweat’ Chewitt, who was fatally shot on July 23, 2015.

Chewitt was shot five times (once in the head and four times in the back) sometime after 8 p.m. in front his home at Upper New Montrose/Monkey Hill.

Chewitt was a shop owner and a political activist for the Unity Labour Party (ULP) who was actively involved in the campaign to have Deborah Alexander-Charles elected as the parliamentary representative for West Kingstown in the 2015 general elections.

Alexander-Charles had just dropped Chewitt home when he was killed. Some persons have alleged that Chewitt’s shooting involved two gunmen who fled the scene on foot after shooting the dreadlocked man.
