Canouan kicks off ‘The Ultimate Summer Event’ tonight

This year’s Canouan Carnival is shaping up to be one of the grandest in recent times.

Hansel “Crush” Henry, president of Club Nuevo, the event’s organizer, says that anticipation for the festivities, slated to begin today, July 22, is at a high, in the wake of the just concluded Vincy Mas, less than two weeks ago.{{more}}

“Everyone is looking forward to the action down in the Grenadines, because they are still buzzing with the energy from ‘the Hottest Carnival in the Caribbean’,” Henry said.

“Canouan Carnival is like a ‘last lap’ for revellers who are able to make it down; and this year we expect a packed house because everyone is asking about it, and lots of people have indicated that they will be on the island for the festivities.”

Dubbed “The Ultimate Summer Event,” Canouan kicks off this weekend with the grand opening tonight at the Canouan hard court, and continues tomorrow with Bae Watch, followed by Kiddies Carnival on Sunday, both also taking place at the hard court.

Things get really heated the following weekend, with Night Mas, which takes place on Thursday July 28, followed by the highly anticipated event, Soca 360 (The Black Edition), which features an all-star Vincentian cast, and includes reigning Ragga Soca Monarch Chewalee, as well as Luta, Hance, Wiz Skid, Royall, Napthali, Fresh Kydd, Karbon, Dymez, Yogie, as well as DJ Q and DJ Fugitive from the Sound Definishun Sound System, and musical reinforcements by Rasta Medz.

The pageant of all pageants, Miss Rural Carnival, takes place the following night, on July 30, and will see Miss North Leeward Ronella Lampkin, Miss North Windward Kimesia Bowens, Miss P’tani Kelisha Henry, Miss South Leeward Nelisa Parsons, Miss South Windward Zoneh Seymour, Miss St Georges Brittney Oliver, and Miss Southern Grenadines Shantelle De Roche vie for one of the most coveted titles in pageantry.

The Wet Fete will take place on Sunday, July 31, and festivities culminate on August 1 with J’Ouvert in the early hours of the morning, followed by the street jump-up later in the afternoon.

Henry indicated that the Canouan Carnival has been growing from strength to strength over the years, and with the growing anticipation and participation, the organizing committee expects and hopes for one of the biggest and best sessions.

“It’s going to be really great this year. Everything is set for what we believe is the best summer event in the region and we intend to live up to expectations with well organized shows, artistes and contestants who are ready and rearing to go, as well as the thousands of persons who we expect will patronize the events.

“This is an invitation for those who haven’t yet decided if they will be in Canouan for the Carnival, come down and experience what Carnival has been talking about outside of Vincy Mas. It’s a memorable experience that you won’t forget or regret any time soon,” Henry noted.
