The CW Prescod Primary, who performed ‘Back off’ by Touch, took the second place, while third place went to the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, with their rendition of ‘Tabanca’ by Tommy T.

The Girls’ High School was also the winner of the Hairoun Band Party competition.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT after the show, musical director Johnny Pompey said that he could not find words to describe how he felt.

“It feel really, really, good… I came close before and I was stopped in my tracks.”

Pompey noted that for this year’s competition, he had to step out of his comfort zone and dig a little deeper.

“I have a particular style that I used to use and I had to go a little extreme beyond that…in terms of digging a little deeper,” he said.

Pompey noted that he tries to motivate and inspire the girls to have confidence in themselves during his practice sessions.

“When I give them something to play, don’t ever say it is too hard, because I know that they can play. I always tell them anything I give them to play, I know they can play it. If they think it’s too hard, I will them how to do it…,” he pointed out.

The pannist noted that he was filled with pride, because he considers himself to be a surrogate father for the girls.

The other schools in the competition were: the Troumaca Government School, the South Rivers Methodist, the Sandy Bay Government School and the Marriaqua Government School.(CM)
