Two Canadians facing cocaine charges

Two persons have been charged in relation to last week’s cocaine bust at the ET Joshua airport.

Canadian residents Eron Williams and Paula Robinson were slapped with six charges when they appeared before chief magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias yesterday at the Serious Offences Court.{{more}}

They were both charged that “on 21 January 2016 at the ET Joshua Airport Arnos Vale in St Vincent and the Grenadines and within the first magisterial district had in your possession a controlled drug to wit 2,082 grams of cocaine for the purpose of Drug Trafficking. Contrary to Section 16(1) of the Drug Prevention of Misuse Act, Chapter 284 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 2009.”

They were also charged that on that said date they had in their possession “2,082 grams of cocaine with intent to supply to another and that between the 6 and 21 of January 2016 did agree with each other that a course of conduct shall be pursued which if the agreement was carried out in accordance or involved the commission of attempt to export.”

Additionally, they were charged that between January 6 and 21 2016 they “did agree with each other that a course of conduct shall be pursued which if the agreement was carried out in accordance with their intentions will necessarily amount to or involve the commission of Drug Trafficking. Contrary to section 310(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Chapter 171 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 2009.”

However, Robinson was separately charged that she “did attempt to export a controlled drug to wit 2,082 grams of cocaine,” while Williams was charged for possession of three grams of cocaine with intent to supply.

Acting under the advice of senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche, Browne-Matthias set a composite bail of $90,000 with one surety and ordered that they surrender all travel documents and that stop notices be placed on all ports of exit.

The two were also ordered to report to the Central Police Station Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

According to a usually reliable source, Robinson was apprehended last Thursday, while travelling to the United Kingdom on a Canadian passport. Security personnel, while doing a pat down of her body, detected that something was strapped about her waist. Further checks revealed a quantity of cocaine.

Williams and Robinson are scheduled to reappear on March 29, 2016. The duo is being represented by Ronnie Marks.(AS)
