New Miss SVG ready to serve as Ambassador

Miss SVG 2013 Shara George says she is ready to serve as this country’s ambassador, with dignity. The Cane Garden resident, who was sponsored by her employer the Mustique Company Ltd, emerged victorious over seven other hopefuls last Saturday, at the 2013 Miss SVG pageant, held at Carnival City, Victoria Park.{{more}}

Just minutes after being crowned, an overwhelmed George told SEARCHLIGHT that it was an amazing feeling when she realized that she had won.

“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be an ambassador for my country and I plan to do that to the best of my abilities. I am glad the judges saw it fit to award me with the honour,” the new Miss SVG stated.

The 22-year-old explained that leading up to the night of the pageant, preparations were rough and she felt she deserved victory after her hard work.

“There were a lot of sleepless nights and that’s one of the prices for doing something that’s worth doing. It takes a lot of hard work and I am glad that I stepped up and put in the effort, because it has paid off.

“I am satisfied because I won…” she added.

The aspiring entrepreneur also encouraged other young Vincentian women to take up the opportunity to enter Miss SVG.

According to George, there are a lot of benefits to be derived, especially the experience gained.

“Young ladies, sign up.

“Visit CDC’s office as soon as registration is open. You will not regret the experience as long as you enter with an open mind. What you will learn leading up to the night of the pageant is a lifetime of experience that will benefit [you] through life,” George encouraged.

Of the four categories judged, George won the “best in evening gown” category.

Her gown, called “Isere Savoy”, was designed by local designer Kimon Baptiste.

First runner-up position went to Miss Metrocint General Insurance Company Limited Anna LaBorde, who won the best in swimwear category.

LaBorde also won the Romano Richards Miss Congeniality award.

Second runner-up Miss Lotto Hannah Hamilton was also rewarded for having the best attendance at the training sessions.

In the other categories judged, the best talent went to Miss Super Six Chenead Hackshaw.

Hackshaw’s presentation of “Deportee” had members of the audience laughing from start to finish, as she portrayed the life of a Vincentian woman who travelled to Canada and sought refugee status, but was denied, because of the falsified information she presented.

Photographers at the pageant also adjudged Hackshaw as most the photogenic.

Miss Agricultural Input Warehouse Ann-Therese Chambers was awarded the “best interview” title, while Miss Lime Shannon Bess was judged most community spirited and given the Richard Monroe award.

The other contestants were Miss SVG Port Authority Marresa Endeavour and Miss Coreas Hazells Brooke Legair.

New Song Soca winner Garrett “Icon” John, New Song Ragga Soca winner Tamisha Nicholls, New Song Calypso winner Grantley “Ipa’ Constance and Shaunelle McKenzie, who is celebrating 20 years in the calypso industry, provided musical entertainment at the pageant.

Radio personality and comedian, Shevrelle “Candy Man” McMillan also provided hilarious entertainment in a 10-minute skit, in which he played the role of a politician who forms a new political party under the name Sensible Honourable and International Trusted (SHIT).

Miss SVG 2012, Carice Glasgow, in her final walk, entertained patrons with a song entitled “I was here”, by Beyonce.

Other winners at the Miss SVG 2013 pageant were the Best Dressed Female patron, Debbie King, and Best Dressed Male patron Rodney Small.

Both will receive season tickets to all CDC shows for Vincy Mas and gifts from various business houses.

Miss SVG 2013 Shara George will represent this country at the Miss Carival show, scheduled for June 28. (AA)
