Blondie Bird and Friends ‘clean up’ at Kiddies Carnival

For the second year in a row, Blondie Bird and Friends’ mas band has dominated Junior Carnival – scooping the much-coveted Junior Band of the Year, along with several other top spots.{{more}}

The band, sponsored by Guinness, Y de Lima and Hitz 103.7 FM, took first place in Individuals 10 – 15, Junior Queen of Carnival, Junior King of Carnival, Best Junior Section and the Uptown Competition. It came second in the Individuals 5 – 9 section.

Blondie Bird and Friends’ colourful 2012 production was titled ‘A Glimpse of Kingstown’. Its Individual 10 – 15 was ‘Lotto’, portrayed by Alicia Thomas; Individual 5 – 9 was ‘Coins’, portrayed by Thalia de Shong; Junior Queen was ‘Market Lady’, portrayed by Jayniah Prescott; and Junior King was ‘Heritage Square – Our Cultural Heritage’, portrayed by Jelani Niles. Best Junior Section was titled ‘Coins – from Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines’.

SVG Players International had to settle for second place in Junior Band of the Year with its production ‘Come Fly With Me’. It scooped first place in Individuals 5 – 9 (Dragon Fly); second place in Individuals 10 – 15 (Fly Your Kite), Junior Queen (Fly Me To The Moon), Junior King (Fly, Flying Fish, Fly) and Best Junior Section (Fire Flies); and placed third in the Uptown Competition.

Third place in Junior Band of the Year was taken by Lynx Mas Band, who placed fourth in Individuals 10 – 15, and fifth and sixth in Best Junior Section.

Digicel Nelson Bloc took fourth place in Junior Band of the Year with ‘Dat is Sos: tribute to Winston Soso, and second in the Uptown Competition.

In the Junior Band of the Year section, High Voltage Mas Production placed fifth with ‘Making of the Caribbean Civilisation’, and Tribes Mas Band took sixth place with ‘Journey to Ancient Egypt’.

In Individuals 5 – 9, High Voltage Mas Production placed third with ‘Chords of Asia’, and Blondie Bird and Friends ‘Heritage Square’ took fourth place.

In Individuals 10 – 15, third and fourth places were taken by Blondie Bird and Friends ‘Jewels’ and Lynx Mas Band ‘Montezuma’, respectively.

‘Chords of Asia’ by High Voltage Mas Production won third place in the Junior Queen section, while Imagination Mas Band took fourth place with ‘Sweet Dreams’.

In the Junior King section, Melbourne Artisans placed third with ‘Heritage Square’ and High Voltage Mas Production placed fourth with ‘Emperor Abu Bakari III’.

Blondie Bird and Friends doubled up yet again in the Best Junior Section category, placing third with ‘Heritage Square – our cultural heritage’.

In the Uptown Competition, Owen Ralph and the Professionals took fourth spot with ‘Celebration in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’, X-treme Fanatics placed fifth with ‘Mystical Voyage’, and High Voltage Mas Production took sixth position with ‘Making of the Caribbean’.(JV)
