Tax man calls on local ‘drug dealer’

A Vincentian drug dealer has received a bill of EC$3.5 million for outstanding taxes.{{more}}

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves made the disclosure on Sunday, November 28, while addressing a mass rally of Unity Labour Party (ULP) supporters at Victoria Park.

“It has come to my attention that a big drug man, he has a name Spanish sounding… he giving out little envelopes… you know why? Because he believe that could help him with cases which are against him, but if he believes that, that will be foolish,” said Gonsalves.

Gonsalves said the drug dealer was sent the million dollar bill a few weeks ago.

“People inside the NDP now are already making the deals with persons who are engaged in drugs and money laundering to take care of their taxes,” Gonsalves charged.

“I want also to warn you that there are a lot of hangers on in the NDP waiting to get their hands on state property. The deal that you used to have in the Mitchell years will return….We in power for ten years, not one of we buy a square inch of government land…. What I don’t understand about some people is that they don’t realize that these people are just interested in grabbing for themselves,” said Gonsalves.

Gonsalves, before thousands of ULP supporters, warned that voting for the opposition NDP in the upcoming General Elections could spell trouble for the country.

The Prime Minister, who delivered the feature address at the official launch of his party’s slate of candidates for the December 13 General Elections, said that under an NDP administration, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will revert to its colonial days.

“I say to you, if you give the NDP a chance, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be back on the road to Massah,” said Gonsalves.

“That is why every time we propose something that is good for our people they say no, no, no. On the other hand we are always seeking to uplift the people; to raise the people up,” said Gonsalves.”

Gonsalves said the NDP has opposed everything including the Education Revolution, trade unions, and non-government organizations.

“They opposed an independent and progressive foreign policy. They opposed the no-income and low-income housing programme. They opposed the Rabacca Bridge, they oppose the Argyle International Airport… everything which has gone good for us… they oppose us and become warlike,” said Gonsalves.

Gonsalves also warned that within six months, if elected to government, the Eustace led administration will “run to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) because they don’t know how to have home-grown solutions.”

The Prime Minister predicted that the NDP would cease the construction of the Argyle International Airport, as well as the cross-country road and the medical assistance programme from Cuba. He said they would also stop the Petro Caribe project if they form the next government.

Gonsalves told the large audience that they need the ULP government to continue the war against poverty, to create more jobs and more wealth, to continue the Education Revolution and pursue its ‘one laptop per student’ policy as well as the Health and Wellness Revolution.
