Youth killed during break-in at C.K. Greaves

A 21-year-old man of Long Wall was shot dead by the police at the C.K. Greaves Supermarket in Kingstown, on Sunday morning shortly after 5 o’clock.{{more}}

Dead is Alphonzo David Jr. also known as “Junior” and “Size All” who was originally from Arnos Vale.

A police report said that at about 5:00 a.m., members of the local constabulary were summoned to the C.K. Greaves Supermarket (Kingstown), when the building’s burglar alarm was triggered.

The report stated that on entering the building, the officers encountered two masked intruders, one of whom threatened them. The police claim that they opened fire and one of the intruders, later identified as “Junior”, was shot and killed. The other intruder escaped.

Acting Commissioner of Police Bertie Pompey has assigned a senior officer of the Police Force to head investigations into the matter, and has further requested assistance from the Royal Barbados Police Force in this respect, the report said.

When contacted on Monday afternoon, David’s girlfriend, Alexandra Cyrus, told SEARCHLIGHT that she was still in a state of shock over her lover’s death.

The teenager recalled that she had gone to Club Rush the previous night and was at her home sleeping when she received the tragic news at about 7 a.m.

Cyrus said while at the club, she kept thinking about church. She said that she found that strange, because she only attends church when she is invited. She added that as soon as she got home, she took out a purple and black outfit and decided that she would wear that to church.

But earlier Sunday morning while clubbing, Cyrus said that she went outside and saw David for the last time.

“I sit in his lap and was speaking to him. I asked him how he looked so cute. I said you want us to go home and he said ‘Nah! Go and enjoy yourself’,” Cyrus recalled.

Shortly after, Cyrus said that they parted and she received a message from him stating that he loved her.

Cyrus said she reckoned that something was wrong when she left the club, because normally David would accompany her to her home, but he was not there.

“I find myself crying a lot. I find like it is my fault, because probably if I did not go in the club, I might have been able to save him,” said Cyrus, as she broke down in tears.

“He used to get locked up a lot, but since we’ve been together, he changed a lot. I don’t know what get up in his head that night. Bad company he follow,” Cyrus said, as she wiped streaks of tears from her face.

She described her boyfriend as loving, nice and a free-handed person, who never fussed about doing anything for anyone in their neighbourhood.
