Calvert Williams Rodney, a sailor, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Monday, July 19 and pleaded not guilty to possession of 10,896 grams of cocaine.
It is alleged that on Saturday July 16, at the Kingstown Port, both Rodney and the drug were found aboard motor vessel Elita 1 which was bound for Tortola the following day.
When contacted yesterday, Police were unwilling to give a street value of the drug, however estimates put the value of the drug at EC$500,000.
The prosecution objected to Rodneyâs bail on the grounds that Rodney is a flight risk and that the case involves a large quantity of drugs.
Rodney also pleaded not guilty to attempting to export 10,896 grams of cocaine.
Senior Magistrate Donald Browne said he was not considering bail at that time and transferred the matter to the Serious Offences Court for Monday July 26, 2010.
