Dr. Timothy Providence resigns from NCB

Everyone is tight lipped.

No one, including Dr. Timothy Providence, wishes to say why he resigned as the Chairman of the state owned National Commercial Bank (NCB).{{more}}

On Monday this week, Providence tendered, with immediate effect, his resignation as the bank’s chairman, a post he had held since December 2008.

Finance Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves when contacted on Tuesday confirmed that Providence had indeed quit his post.

“Tim would have his personal reasons, but the Acting Chairman is a very experienced person, Mr. Errol Allen. So things are in order,” said the Prime Minister.

SEARCHLIGHT contacted Providence for a comment but he was mum on the matter.

“No, no! I have no comment to make at this time,” Providence, a prominent gynaecologist and obstetrician, who retired from the public service in 2005, exclaimed.

Allen also declined to give a comment.

“Not at all…I have nothing further to say,” said Allen, when told that SEARCHLIGHT had already interviewed Prime Minister Gonsalves on the issue.

Allen, whose task will be cut out for him in the upcoming months, is a trained Economist who previously served as Deputy Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, having served in that position from 1983 to 2005. At present he is the President of the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Banking and Financial Services (ECIB) and chairman of the Caribbean Association of Banking and Financial Institutes (CABFI). He was appointed to the NCB’s board in October 2005.

The other board members listed on the NCB’s website are: Godwin Daniel, former Coordinator of the Agricultural Management Specialist of IICA; Edmund Jackson, Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance and Planning; Leopold Stoddard, a retired Police Officer who served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police from 1990 to 2002; Evelyn Jackson, Chairperson of the Audit Committee; Liley Cato, Sales and Marketing Manager at Coreas Hazells Incorporated; Winston Venner, a Financial Advisor who worked for several years in the Insurance Industry, and Judith Veira, an Actuarial Scientist.
