Oh ‘me Darlene’ is first born

Darlene Smart described giving birth as an experience like never before.{{more}}

That is understandable from a woman who is having her first child.

What made the birth of her eight pound, 12 ounce daughter more significant is that the yet to be named baby was the first of five to be delivered on the first day of 2010.

Smart, of Ratho Mill, gave birth to her bundle of joy at 1:50 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

She said that the pain leading up to the birth ‘was nothing like she expected’, but in the end, she has her very own darling, and with that she is satisfied.

Plans for a return to the delivery room for the next baby have not yet been discussed with her husband.

Meanwhile, Letricia deShong’s 9:50am delivery of a bouncing baby boy has brought her the pair.

Already the mother of a seven-year-old daughter, deShong indicated that there are no plans in the pipelines or tubes by her and her other half for more children.

“The pair is just enough. God blessed us with exactly what we want and that is about it.”

deShong described her second birth as ‘terrible’, but was excited to have the first boy of the year.

Her little one, who weighed in at eight pounds seven ounces, was the first of two boys born on the day, while there were three girls born, with the young Smart leading the way.

Another statistic of note is the number of babies born on the last day of 2009.

Records show that six males and 5 females were born on December 31, with the last child, a girl, being born at 4:15pm.

Ironically, the mother of that child was also born on December 31. (JJ)
