Small’s partly decomposed body was found in a shallow grave at the Belair Cemetery on April 22nd. It was said that persons living in the vicinity of the cemetery complained of a foul odour emanating from the area and called the police. A search by investigators revealed the body of a woman.

The body was identified as that of Small on April 23rd. 73-year-old Small was a retired Librarian, and a resident of Queen’s Drive.

News of her death sent shockwaves throughout the nation last week Thursday, and the man who has been charged with causing her death was brought before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday.

With a rather calm demeanor, 31-year-old Junior Quashie, of Belair, stepped into the defendant’s box to answer to the charge of causing Small’s death between April 19th and 22nd at Indian Bay. He was, however, not allowed to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. Small also owned a home at Indian Bay.

Searchlight has been reliably informed that Quashie is a deportee from Canada and was admitted to the Mental Hospital for observation in 2003.

The matter was adjourned to August 12, 2008, for Preliminary Inquiry.(KW)
