Breadfruit, coconut man killed at Murray’s Road

On any given day when your thirst or craving for a drink of coconut water arrested you, you could be sure to meet Maxwell “Maxi” Welcome at Murray’s village public road waiting to supply your needs.{{more}}

Unfortunately on Monday night, family members and residents of Murray’s Village came to the shocking reality that the man who provided that service to them over the years, had been killed.

Welcome, 35, a coconut vendor fell victim to a vicious cutlass attack around 8 p.m. that fateful Monday night.

When SEARCHLIGHT visited the distraught family at their home on Tuesday, mixed emotions of sadness and anger engulfed the house.

Mother, Stella Welcome Soleyn said she is still trying to stay strong since the death of her son. Soleyn described her son as a fun loving individual. “He used to help me out whenever he could afford it. Maxwell never get in any trouble and he was the kind of person to give anything to anybody.”

However, Soleyn said Maxwell was caught in the middle of a nasty love triangle. “He was with this woman living with her for a while and she threw him out and got in with another fella,” said Soleyn.

The disheartened mother said she warned her son on many occasions not to get back with the lady but he did not listen. “After a while Maxwell got back with her while she was still with the other man,” Soleyn said.

Soleyn, who is also a vendor said she did not see her son for about a week before his death. “I stop going down the road for a while because of the heated arguments that used to occur between three of them and the threatening words the lady gave to me.”

Sister, Rosalind Welcome recalled the last conversation she had with her brother, “It was last week when I see him and ask him why he had to get back with that girl and all he do was just watch me and smile and went his way,” recalled Welcome.

Welcome said her brother did not deserve to die the way he did and that he got mixed up in a relationship he should have stayed out.
