CDC Chairman calls on country to support Vincy Mas 2007

As Vincentians prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of June/July carnival, all systems are go for what organizers are saying may be one of the best carnivals in years.

Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Dennis Ambrose called on all persons to turn out and support the country’s major cultural event in all its facets.{{more}}

Addressing the corporation’s final press conference on Tuesday before tonight’s Fantastic Friday grand opening, Ambrose urged patrons to support among other events the junior shows: tomorrow’s Junior Carnival, Junior Calypso/Soca scheduled for July 3rd, and July 5th’s Junior Panorama.

He also encouraged participation in the Monday street jump up and t-shirt bands, which are considered indigenous to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ambrose outlined a number of special events that will take place during the 10-day celebrations, including the recognition of Melbourne Constance and Granville Straker for their contributions to carnival, and a reunion of the band Touch at the Miss Carival pageant.

Meanwhile Minister of Culture René Baptiste reminded patrons to obey the laws, and to keep carnival clean.

Minister Baptiste in her presentation tackled whom she regarded as persons pushing an agenda against CDC, by chronicling the achievements of the corporation, and the components of carnival since 2001.

She said that the quality and delivery of carnival has improved, and that neither the CDC, herself or the Ministry of Culture will be ‘bullied or abused’.
