Youth, 21, loses life on Arnos Vale stretch

A loud bang echoed in the silence of the night on the Arnos Vale stretch last Sunday as traffic came to a standstill.

And in the mangled Honda car PD 956 that had just crashed into a high tension pole lay two youths, 21-year-old Rafagha “Raffie” Huggins/Sardine of Golden Vale and Argyle and his 19-year-old girlfriend Sabrina Richards of Campden Park.{{more}}

The youths struggled to hold on to life, but while Sabrina who sustained a fractured leg survived the incident, Raffie was not so fortunate. He died on his way to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

A police report said that Huggins sustained multiple injuries about his body and at press time Sabrina lay at the hospital in serious but stable condition.

The police said the vehicle was being driven by Sabrina when it ran off the road and collided with a pole at 9 p.m.

When contacted Raffie’s father, Foster Huggins, said he was unable to speak with the media and he believes the same goes for the youth’s mother.

A post mortem was expected to have been carried out on Huggins’ body to ascertain the cause of death.

Last night, the Import Dreams Auto Club, of which Huggins was a member, held a candle light vigil and prayer session at the accident site at Arnos Vale. The vigil was held in conjunction with the Blue Angels Development Agency.

Huggins will be laid to rest tomorrow at the Calliaqua Cemetery following a service at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption at 2 p.m.
