Man fined for assault of sister, gets bail for also chopping his father

A young man who was fined and ordered to pay compensation for striking his sister with a cutlass; and then remanded into custody for chopping his father with a cutlass has now been granted bail.

Krishna Richards, 24, of Chateaubelair appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate, Colin John on May 2, 2024, where he was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 after being remanded into custody for allegedly chopping his father with a cutlass, on April 24, 2024, at Chateaubelair.

When he was arraigned for this matter on April 25, 2024, Richards was not required to plea to this offence as his father was still in hospital. However, when he was taken back to court last Thursday, May 2, the prosecution no longer objected to bail. It was reported that the father had been discharged from the hospital on Tuesday April, 30, 2024, and is now in a stable condition.

However, Magistrate John told Richards that he must prove to the court that he has alternative accommodation besides his father’s residence.

Richards was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with one surety. He is ordered to have no contact with his father, and was given reporting conditions at the Chauteaubelair Police Station. The matter is adjourned to June 5, 2024.

On April 25, 2024, Richards also had to answer to an assault charge against his sister. He was fined $300 to be paid in one month, with a default judgement of three months imprisonment. He was also ordered to compensate his sister $300 in one month or face three months imprisonment.
