Over $6,000 worth of items stolen from church

Someone stole alcohol and more than $6,000 worth of items from a church, but the two men brought before court said it wasn’t them.

Jamello Williams and Sheldon Samuel were charged before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court that they did between June 16 and 20 at Vermont, enter the Israel Baptist Church in of Vermont and stole a number of items.

When Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett began reading the list of items stolen, he was surprised and asked Prosecutor Corlene Samuel if it was correct.

She said that it was, and that she believed that in addition to being a church, the building was also someone’s storeroom.

Samuel and Williams are charged with stealing a bottle of Brandy, Hennessey and Grey Goose Vodka. They were also charged with a number of other items such as bed sheets, battery power packs, wood varnishes, fabric softeners, cooking oil, coffee and mouthwash etc. The total value of the items came up to $6,340, as belonging to Afiesha Glasgow of Vermont.

Williams had other charges before the court for theft and unlawful and malicious wounding, but pleaded not guilty to them. He continued in this vein for the charge with Samuel, and pleaded not guilty.

Samuel’s left hand, missing half of the thumb, shook as he too plead not guilty.

Bail was granted in the sum of $5,000 with one surety, and the matter was adjourned and transferred to the Layou Magistrate’s Court to be heard tomorrow.
