Man faces another firearm charge

For the second time this year, Collin “Cocoa” David appeared before the Serious Offences Court to answer firearm offences.

David appeared in court yesterday, charged that on Wednesday, October 18, at Glen, he had in his possession a 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun without a licence and that on the same date he had in his possession, 16 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche objected to David’s bail, informing the court that the defendant was on bail for a similar offence.

When David was arrested on Wednesday, he was on bail, as police officers have alleged that on May 5, 2017, at Kingstown, he had in his possession one Canik 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, serial number T6472-16 Ap 19974 and on that same day and place he had 36 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, both without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.

Despite already being on bail for gun related charges, Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias placed David on bail in the sum of EC$15,000 and ordered that he report three times a week to a police station and seek permission to leave the state. His travel documents have already been surrendered as a condition of his first bail.

David is being represented by lawyer Grant Connell.

David’s May 5 offence saw him jointly charged with Gershon Cole-Woods. Cole-Woods is charged that on May 5, 2017, at Kingstown, he had in his possession one .38 Taurus revolver, serial number 542285, and on that same day and place he had 15 rounds of .38 ammunition, both without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.

But Cole-Woods has since disappeared and his surety was recently ordered to pay EC$12,000.

David is no stranger to police, but over the years, he has managed to beat all the charges brought against him, from murder to domestic violence.
