Convict tells Chief Magistrate ‘charge me, do whatever you want’

Convict tells Chief Magistrate ‘charge me, do whatever you want’

Alison Gibson, who has had more than 31 charges of theft to his name, has been sent to prison for one year, for yet another theft.

When Gibson appeared before the Serious Offences Court on September 20, he pleaded guilty to stealing multiple items from a vendor in Kingstown, including four bottles of alcohol, seven bottles of deodorant, six boxes of Colgate, three bottles of hydrogen peroxide and a variety of other items worth $513 in cash.

The court heard that the vendor, who had secured her stall the evening before, had returned the next morning to find some items missing. Others who had seen the defendant near the stall told her they had seen him and the defendant admitted responsibility for the disappearance of the goods.

After his guilty plea, Gibson told Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias that he was a frightened person and a coward and when persons saw him with the goods, he dropped them and ran.

He said that she should charge him and do whatever she wanted to do.

“I have no problem with your charge,” he added.

Browne-Matthias responded by saying that his “hands need work to do” to stop him from his habits.

She then sentenced him to one year imprisonment at the Belle Isle Correctional Facility, where she is hoping that his hands would be given work to do.(KR)
