Teen slapped with second robbery charge

At 16 years of age, Veron Davy is already a familiar face at the Serious Offences Court.

Davy appeared in court on Monday, September 4, charged that on September 3, at Arnos Vale, armed with a cutlass, he robbed Rajeevan Rasagopal of Villa/Canada.

He is accused of taking from Rasagopal items amounting to CA$3,900, which include a gold chain valued at CA$1,500, an iPhone 7, US$900, EC$2,100 and an amount of Canadian currency. He is also charged that he assaulted Rasagopal, causing actual bodily harm. The matter is indictable and Davy was not allowed to enter a plea.

Davy was placed on composite bail in the sum of EC$6,000 and asked to surrender his travel documents. He was asked to report to the police on Mondays and Thursdays and placed on a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

The accused told the court that he had a bullet in his neck and he wanted to go to the hospital, to which Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias replied, “Don’t talk to me; you’re not making any progress.”

Davy was expected to return to court on December 6, 2017 in relation to this charge, but he turned up in court once again on Monday, September 11, charged that on August 19 at Arnos Vale, he stole a black wallet valued at EC$20 and containing EC$200, the property of Alison Endeavour of Cane Hall. He is also charged that he assaulted Endeavour, causing actual bodily harm.

Davy returns to court on November 6 in relation to this charge. He was also given bail in relation to this offence, but no one turned up to sign it and he was whisked away to prison.

While leaving, he stuck up his middle finger to members of the press.
